U.S. President Donald Trump has opened a poll asking people to vote on a new name for “Artificial Intelligence” — he says he finds the current term “inaccurate, and very ineloquent.”
The poll options
In a Truth Social post, Trump put three alternatives to “Artificial Intelligence” up for a vote:
- Superior Intelligence
- Extreme Intelligence
- Supreme Intelligence
The poll was still open as of this writing.
An “AI Force” and an “AI czar”
In the same post, Trump announced plans to create an “AI Force,” modeled after the Space Force he established during his first term — though he gave no details on what the new body would actually do. He also said he’d soon name an “AI czar” for the administration, adding that “only high I.Q. individuals need apply.”
The backdrop: pushback against AI data centers
Trump used the post to frame concerns over AI safety and data centers as a “hoax” orchestrated by the “Radical Left,” without offering evidence for the claim. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly agreed with that characterization.
In practice, though, criticism of AI data centers doesn’t fall along a single political line: both Republicans and Democrats have pushed back on some of these projects over their energy and water consumption in the communities where they’re built. New York recently became the first U.S. state to halt permits for large new data centers.
