The National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC), a research unit linked to Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, represented Brazil at the 10th BRICS Working Group meeting on High-Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence. The meeting was held in Goa, India, on September 9 and 10.
According to LNCC, Brazil highlighted initiatives involving high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence, quantum computing, federated networks and scientific cooperation among the countries in the group.
Why infrastructure matters
AI models, scientific simulations and large-scale data analysis do not rely only on apps. They require computing capacity, networks, storage, energy and specialised teams. This is why supercomputing is strategic for research, industry and public services.
The BRICS agenda seeks to expand technical cooperation between Brazil, India, China, Russia, South Africa and the bloc’s other members. The meeting did not announce a consumer product or a new commercial platform; its focus was the exchange of experience and the development of joint projects.
Brazil’s role
LNCC operates the Santos Dumont supercomputer and works on research that uses high-performance computing. Brazil’s participation places issues such as digital infrastructure, researcher training and responsible AI use among priorities for international cooperation.
For companies and citizens, this kind of collaboration may seem distant, but it can strengthen the country’s ability to produce knowledge, train professionals and develop local solutions in areas such as healthcare, climate, cybersecurity and industry.
