São Paulo City Hall will hold an educational technical mission in Braga, Portugal, from October 13 to 22, with eight teachers from the Municipal Education Network and two civil servants accompanying the institutional and technical agenda. The initiative is led by the Municipal Secretariat for International Relations (SMRI) in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Education (SME).

According to the city administration, the mission is intended to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge about public education policies developed in Braga. The programme includes dialogue with Braga’s Department of Education and Social Cohesion, visits to educational units and teacher-training spaces, as well as an academic agenda at the University of Minho.
Delegation arrives in Braga and is received at City Hall
The delegation of teachers sent by São Paulo City Hall arrived in Braga, Portugal, on Wednesday (14). On Thursday (15), the group was received by city councilwoman Hortense Santos at the Braga Municipal Chamber. According to the chamber’s institutional profile, she oversees, among other areas, education, youth and sports.

Literacy, management and inclusion
The activities are expected to address literacy, education management, teacher training, inclusion and the organisation of education services. City Hall said the teachers were selected based on their classes’ literacy results, using objective criteria and seeking representation from different units and regions of the municipal network.
The initiative aims to recognise practices that contributed to learning outcomes and to broaden participants’ contact with different models of management, monitoring and professional development.
Knowledge is expected to return to the network
The exchange was designed to reach beyond the group travelling to Portugal. After returning to São Paulo, the teachers are expected to act as multipliers of the experience by documenting what they observed and sharing lessons in training activities and pedagogical workspaces across the Municipal Education Network.
The proposal also includes a mission record bringing together reference practices and possible links with São Paulo’s municipal literacy policy. The city administration says the partnership between the two secretariats may open a path for further international education missions.
Why Braga?
Braga is one of the main cities in northern Portugal and is home to the University of Minho, a public higher-education institution active in research and training. The agenda aims to connect São Paulo educators with local experiences and to build cooperation bridges between education systems.
