The Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) announced the winners of the 3rd edition of the Jabuti Academic Prize. Moreover, the ceremony took place on August 11, 2026, at the Sérgio Cardoso Theater, in São Paulo. Created in 2024 as an offshoot of the traditional Jabuti Prize, the award annually recognizes Brazilian academic and scientific publishing. Jabuti Academic Prize 2026 draws record number of submitted works
In this edition, the competition drew 2,085 submitted works. Also, 25 publishers were recognized among the winners. Furthermore, the 2026 curation was led by Nina Beatriz Stocco Ranieri, in her first time heading the award. In addition, each of the 27 category winners received a Jabuti trophy and R$5,000 in prize money. Thus, the result cements the award as one of the top recognitions of academic output in the country.
Categories and standout winning works of this edition
The categories are organized into two major areas, reflecting the diversity of national scientific production. Next, the first area is Science and Culture, with 24 categories spanning disciplines from administration to psychology. Meanwhile, the second is Special Awards, covering science communication, illustration, infographics, and translation. In turn, among the edition’s highlights is “Sinhás pretas, damas mercadoras,” by Sheila de Castro Faria, winner in the History category. Also noteworthy is “A democracia e o direito depois da pandemia,” by José Eduardo Faria, in the Law category. Finally, “Do achado ao laudo,” organized by Ana Luiza Santos Marques, won in the Medicine category.
The prize enjoys strong institutional support. Likewise, among its supporters are the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp). It is also backed by the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science. Thus, the partnership reinforces the role of the Jabuti Academic Prize as one of the leading showcases of scientific and academic production in the country.
