Singer Rick Sollo, of the Brazilian country duo Rick & Renner, died this Tuesday (22), at age 59, in a helicopter accident in the mountains of Santa Catarina. The aircraft, which had gone missing Monday afternoon (21) after taking off from Porto Belo, was located by Santa Catarina’s fire department near Corvo Branco, close to Urubici, after two days of search efforts.
According to firefighters, the wreckage was found with five occupants dead on board — there were no survivors. Also on the aircraft was businessman Bruno Avelar, founder of the “Poder do Network” project.
The search involved support from the Brazilian Air Force and the Santa Catarina Military Police, and was hampered by poor visibility and heavy rain in the region at the time the helicopter disappeared.
Rick is survived by his wife, Geralda Helena, and six children. Just last week, he had been performing across Brazil’s Center-West region alongside Renner.
