Brazil’s instant payment system Pix hit a new daily record on September 5, 2026. According to Central Bank data, Pix processed 318,073,816 transactions in 24 hours. Also, this mark surpasses the previous record of 313.3 million transactions, set on December 5, 2025, reinforcing the system’s continuous growth trajectory and its central role in the country’s economy. Pix moves record amount in a single day
On the same day, Pix moved R$186.89 billion. The average transaction value was R$587.58 — also above the previous level of R$179.93 billion. Moreover, these figures reinforce the system’s position as the country’s leading electronic payment method. It appears everywhere from large commercial transactions to informal street sales, cementing itself as an essential part of Brazilians’ financial daily life and shopping habits.
Central Bank reinforces free access and expands global reach
Central Bank President Gabriel Galípolo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to keeping the system free and secure for individuals. He also stated that “Pix will continue to be offered as a free, secure, and instant service.” Furthermore, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has publicly highlighted Pix’s role in expanding financial inclusion across Brazil and beyond, citing it as a model for other developing economies.
On the other hand, the system’s success has also made it a subject of international trade disputes. The United States government cited Pix as part of its justification for tariffs on Brazilian products, alleging unfair competition against American payment systems. Meanwhile, the Central Bank is negotiating international integrations with the European TIPS network and Chinese payment platforms. Likewise, Pix is expanding its reach for transactions beyond Brazil’s borders, a movement expected to continue in the coming years as global demand for instant payment systems keeps growing steadily.
