The dollar closed near R$5.15 on Monday, September 14, 2026, as investors turned more cautious. According to A Crítica’s market report, the spot dollar rose 0.49% to R$5.149. During the session, it traded between R$5.1414 and R$5.183.
Despite that daily gain, the US currency remained down 6.19% against the real for the year. These figures describe that trading session rather than a current exchange-rate quote.
Why the dollar closed near R$5.15
Higher oil prices and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East encouraged demand for assets viewed as safer. However, the dollar gave up part of its earlier gains in the afternoon. Comments by US President Donald Trump about possible talks with Iran helped shape market sentiment.
Ibovespa falls as investors assess risks
Meanwhile, the Ibovespa, Brazil’s main stock index, fell 0.91%. Weakness in mining shares and uncertainty over domestic politics weighed on the session. Brent crude also rose, ending at US$105.68 a barrel, up 1.02%.
Investors were watching tensions surrounding Brazil’s Supreme Court and expectations for the next interest-rate decisions. Together, those domestic and international factors helped explain the cautious mood in both currency and stock markets.
